"When Your Technology Is Ahead of the Market Curve" |
Being “ahead of the curve” is often claimed as a badge of honor,
signifying an ability to be at a destination (preferably with just what
we’ll find we need when we get there) before the rest of us. But if we
take too long to catch up, or, worse, are on a different curve
altogether, being “ahead of the curve” can turn out to mean failure for
the company launching a new technology. Some of the greatest rewards
and deepest frustrations may come from being being first with a
solution in a marketplace that has yet to recognize the problem being
solved. The scale of the reward or depth of the frustration may be
functions of the distance to be traveled to traverse that curve and
whether it can be bisected or the journey accelerated by the right
market strategy.
